The idea to form a collective arises as a result of the practices applied in Afro dance classes and showed at our first festival in 2018.

The name Quilombo da Provi arises after the work tat has been done on political discourse in class.

In fact, being one of the educator's suggestions in 2019, the guiding thread of these reflections are extracted from the book O QUILOMBISMO (Abdias Nascimento) and the idea was adapted to Quilombo in search of greater understanding.

With the improvement of the participants in their technical, affective, disciplinary and reflexive skills, it became necessary to channel their learning experiences beyond the photographs. In a way, we could show the community our progresses and put racial, political and social questions on the table through dance.

We started from the idea of combating religious racism for our first show. Our purpose was to achieve respect and empathy within the African religions. Religions that are historically and systematically suffering from the persecutory process rooted in religious racism.

Gradually we progressed in the discourses and expanded our range of possibilities in reflection, in order to increasingly advance in the dialogue with the participants and their audience, in search of political and social reach, having the scene as our didactic field.

The collective, in addition to being a dance group, operates as a welcoming space for its participants. Embracing their subjectivities to empower them within their own understanding of themselves, aiming at a full and healthy development, so that they have strategic resources and psychological measures to protect themselves from the impacts of a segregated society.
